The Rainforest, Sinharaja National Park, Sri Lanka

I always enjoy pushing myself photographically with new challenges – such as genres or environments I’m not experienced at working in. The rainforest was one of these, I hired a driver to take me south from Colombo for a few days working in Sinharaja as my time in Sri Lanka drew to a close.

Finding order amongst the chaos of a jungle is difficult, but you’re always going to be producing more original work than familiar viewpoints where photographers line their tripods up together. As I was shooting most of these views, I was confident I was the first doing so. I worked with the Nikon D850, and mainly used 19mm and 45mm shift lenses to produce composite frames, which were stitched together later in post production.

Hope you enjoy – let me know your fave image in the comments below…

  1. I did enjoy looking at these, as ever and liked all of them. My favourite was the second one down at Singaraja. Most of the image appears wrapped in a blueish mist, except for a bush and some leaves on some of the tree branches. Below is a river with some very big stones. Were you balanced on one of these, by the way? And what wildlife might have been in that river? I also really liked the waterfall ones, but the one I was just describing above is my favourite.

    Hope it’s a good flight. M
