The Russian metro, or Underground system as we call it here in London, is the world’s most beautiful transport network. Built in the Soviet era as a subterranean ornate network for citizens to enjoy on their travels.
- The Moscow Metro is one of the busiest subways in the world and is the world record-holder for on-time departures and arrivals with an accuracy of 99.99%!
- 44 of the 200 Moscow stations are listed as cultural heritage sites.
- Construction began in 1931 after the Soviet Union was established.
- Like in London the Moscow underground stations were used as bomb shelters during WWII
- 7 new stations were built during The War.
- While travelling on the radial lines of the Moscow Metro to the centre the stations are announced by men’s voices, and travelling the opposite direction by women’s voices.
